The retina is a thin layer of nerve fibers that lines the inner wall of the eye. Its function is similar to film in a camera. The retina receives light rays, converts them to an electrical signal and this is sent to the brain, forming an image. The macula is the part of the retina responsible for fine, detailed central vision. The vitreous is the clear gel that fills the eye.
